Important roles for car-dismantling companies and car dealerships

Car-battery collection

While the number of complete car batteries that are removed at car-dismantling companies then enter the recycling process is still limited, the number of processed battery modules, mainly from car dealerships, increased sharply in 2022. ARN is preparing for higher numbers during the next few years.

Most of the batteries that were recycled in 2022 came from dealerships, such as replaced battery modules resulting from a drive-battery recall, for example. Batteries from electric vehicles that are involved in traffic accidents usually end up at car-dismantling companies, where the battery pack is then professionally removed from the vehicle by a trained dismantler.

ARN arranges the specialised transport of batteries and modules from car brands that are affiliated with the ARN collection system. And, of course, for the affiliated car-dismantling companies.

Batteries that can still be used in a stationary application, such as the storage of energy for example, can be given a second lease of life through a specialised company. Other batteries are sent to recycling companies, which then recover valuable raw materials from them.
