Importers’ appreciation of ARN is high. Survey participants admitted they were familiar with mandatory obligations under Bbb (the Netherlands battery-management legislation), but that their familiarity with obligations to take back end-of-life batteries was very low. One in three respondents conceded that dealers were either not, or insufficiently, aware of ARN’s activities, and just over half of respondents expressed a desire to receive more information.
There is mainly a need for information on the following topics:
- feedback on collected batteries
- information about the dealer network
- a straightforward portal for registering batteries
- more insight into the status of collection and recycling
- more regular contact with ARN
Online battery portal realised in 2022
ARN takes the recommendations that ensued from the survey very seriously. The battery portal for registering batteries, for example, was realised in 2022. Sales and maintenance companies can now register car batteries via the online battery portal and car importers can create an account that will give them insight into the battery registrations for their respective brands.
More information for dealerships
ARN is also hard at work on other recommendations that emerged from the survey. For example, in consultation with importers, we are meeting the needs of dealers to keep them better informed on the collection process and status of car batteries. To this end, a theme meeting on car batteries was organised last year.
Importers’ and their retail organisations’ experiences with the new online battery portal will be taken stock of in 2023.
